The Dream of Human-Made Transformers: Introducing J-deite RIDE

The dream of creating Transformers continues to thrive in the hearts of humans. In 2018, Project J-deite, a collaboration of several Japanese companies, has officially unveiled their 4-meter tall transforming robot, J-deite RIDE. This impressive machine can fully transform from a car to a robot, and it even allows a person to sit inside during the transformation. Although its appearance seems a bit cute in its "super-deformed" (chibi) style, it's still quite cool.

J-deite RIDE: A Joint Venture

The J-deite RIDE is a product of the combined efforts of Brave Robotics, Asratec, and Sansei Technologies. The initial sketches were drawn by Kunio Okawara, a highly respected mechanical designer in the Japanese anime industry. While the humanoid form appears a bit cute due to its proportions, it still retains a cool appearance:

The time it took to materialize this concept into reality was not specifically mentioned by the officials. However, before we delve into the details, let's first compare the final product with the initial sketches. The car form is quite similar to the sketch, although the unevenness is more pronounced:

Transforming from Vehicle to Robot

The humanoid form, on the other hand, has some differences. With a height of 4 meters, the large chest and small head make the proportions appear shorter, resulting in a very cute, super-deformed look:

Truth be told, looking at this physical form, it's hard to imagine that it can transform. But it really can, and the officials even filmed a video of the transformation process. From the video, you can see that it takes about a minute and a half for the robot to transform into a car. If this were in the anime world, it would probably have been defeated by the enemy by now (laughs). What's more impressive is that the two pilots can stay inside during the transformation, fully realizing the transformation process seen in Transformers movies. This is truly amazing:

Capabilities of J-deite RIDE

This robot can also move forward, albeit at a slow pace. According to official data, it moves at about 100m/h, slower than a human. It can be operated from the cockpit, and also supports remote wireless control:

In its car form, it can indeed be driven, but it's much slower than a regular vehicle, with a speed of only 60km/h. The tire size is 165/60R15, similar to that of a small car on the market:
