Amy Dowden Taken to Hospital During Strictly Show
Professional dancer Amy Dowden was rushed to the hospital during Saturday night’s live broadcast of Strictly Come Dancing after collapsing backstage. The incident occurred at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, where the show is filmed.
Return to the Show
Dowden, who had missed the previous series due to a breast cancer diagnosis, made her return to the BBC talent show this year. Her spokesperson informed BBC News that Amy was feeling unwell, prompting the precautionary call for an ambulance. "Amy is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern," the spokesperson added. They also requested that Amy’s privacy regarding her health be respected.
Emergency Response
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed the call: "We were called just after 21:00 BST on Saturday to attend a medical emergency at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. An ambulance was sent to the scene, and one patient, an adult female, was transported to Barnet Hospital for further care."
Absence from Results Show
Due to her hospitalization, Dowden did not participate in Sunday night’s results show. Her dance partner, JLS star JB Gill, expressed gratitude on Instagram for the support they received: "I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for voting for us and wishing us well. We absolutely loved our performance on Saturday night and are so grateful to be through to another week. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support."
Previous Health Scare
Last year, Dowden revealed a near-fatal encounter with sepsis while undergoing cancer treatment. She described the experience as "very unlucky" and recounted how she felt unwell two days after a chemotherapy session. During a walk with her parents, Gillian and Richard, she initially felt fine but quickly deteriorated, leading to an emergency hospital visit. Dowden ended up in intensive care with a high temperature and was diagnosed with sepsis, a life-threatening condition.
Sepsis can be deadly, especially for individuals with compromised immune systems, such as those undergoing chemotherapy. Dowden also manages Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory condition that further complicates her health.
