Chiefs complete trade for Titans receiver DeAndre Hopkins

According to multiple reports, the Kansas City Chiefs have acquired wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans.

Hopkins, 32, is expected to bolster a receiving group that has been hit hard by injuries to Rashee Rice, Marquise Brown, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

The Chiefs are trading a fifth-round draft pick, which could become a fourth-rounder if Kansas City makes it to the Super Bowl and Hopkins plays 60% of the snaps, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Additionally, Tennessee will cover $2.5 million of Hopkins’ salary.

This season, Hopkins has recorded 15 catches for 173 yards for a Titans team that has only one win and has faced quarterback issues. He had a knee injury during training camp that did not require surgery. Last season, he had 75 catches for 1,057 yards with Tennessee.

Hopkins is the third notable receiver to be traded in the past eight days. The Las Vegas Raiders traded Davante Adams to the New York Jets, and the Cleveland Browns sent Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills. The Los Angeles Rams are also reportedly in trade talks involving former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp.

The Chiefs, who are the two-time defending Super Bowl champions and currently hold the best record in the NFL at 6-0, have been seeking a receiver to support quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Brown is not expected to return this season after undergoing shoulder surgery last month. Rice is also out for the season following surgery on his right knee. Smith-Schuster missed the recent game against the San Francisco 49ers due to a hamstring injury and has been ruled out for the Chiefs’ Week 8 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
