Comedian mocks Latinos at Trump's New York City rally

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a rally on Sunday at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York City, a stronghold of Democratic support. Trump, along with his running mate JD Vance, delivered speeches criticizing the Biden administration's economic and immigration policies.

Comedian's Remarks Stir Outrage

However, the event took a controversial turn when comedian Tony Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating garbage island," sparking widespread outrage. In response to the backlash, Hinchcliffe retorted that his critics lacked a sense of humor.

Democratic Response

Democratic vice-presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz compared Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden to a pro-Nazi event held in 1939, stating that there were "direct similarities" between the two.

During a live stream with Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Walz addressed Hinchcliffe's derogatory remarks about Puerto Rico, stating, "Listen, I know everyone here today understands this: Puerto Ricans are citizens. They pay taxes and serve in the military at rates higher than almost anyone else."

Ocasio-Cortez's Criticism

Ocasio-Cortez, who has Puerto Rican heritage, also criticized Trump for allowing Hinchcliffe to make such offensive comments at the rally. She expressed her deep displeasure and discomfort with Hinchcliffe's remarks.

Hinchcliffe's Defense

In response, Hinchcliffe took to social media platform X to defend himself, stating, "These people have no sense of humor. A vice-presidential candidate took time out of his 'busy schedule' to dissect a joke and make it seem racist. I love Puerto Rico and vacation there. I joke about everyone."
